What others have done…

Build awareness through displays and petition signing

Elgar Road Vet – “Our goal for the week is to raise awareness amongst our client base about animal related issues, clients will also have access to petitions which will be available to sign during the week and a colouring competition for children. We have also organised to raise money through having a donation tin set up at the clinic. We will be donating all proceeds to ‘Save-A-Dog Scheme Inc.’ which is a community-based not-for-profit animal welfare organisation that saves hundreds of dogs and cats from being killed every year. They have a no-kill philosophy and provide veterinary care to sick or injured animals so they can live out their natural lifespan. For more information about this wonderful organisation and to see where the money will go please visit their website We appreciate the opportunity to further animal welfare any way we can and encourage all to come down and donate just a bit of time to have a look at our displays or donate a bit of money to help those who need it most!”

Exploring Time with the animals

Ainslie Parklands Primary School – Chantal Teague -” We will be using our morning “Exploring Time” sessions to complete a range of activities that help all types of animals – from the wildlife in our local area, to companion animals at the local shelter, and even wild animals who are facing issues such as deforestation, poaching and so forth. We will also be working towards helping our own ‘pets’ by improving their pens and introducing perches and materials that allow our chickens to express themselves while in their coup. It will be a fun and exciting time for the students as we learn more about animals and ways we can directly help improve their lives, just in the choices we make.

Range of activities will include:

  • making Animal Toys for Coldstream Animal Aid
  • starting an animal aid drive for toys/ blankets/towels/food etc,
  • creating bird baths and possum boxes for our school grounds,
  • improving the chicken pen to include perches, digging spaces, scratching areas and so forth
